The one-day conference titled “Awareness of the Spiritual World: The Good, The Bad, and The Unexplained” held on September 24, 2023, at Mar Gregorios Orthodox Church, Hebbal, was a remarkable event that brought together over 280 participants from the Bangalore Diocese. Organized by the MGOCSM and OCYM of the hosting parish, under the esteemed leadership of H. G. Dr. Abraham Mar Seraphim, the Metropolitan of the Bangalore Diocese, the conference proved to be thought-provoking and spiritually enlightening.

The event commenced with a prayer led by our Metropolitan, setting a sacred tone for the day. Rev. Fr. Jacob Thomas, Vicar of the Mar Gregorios Orthodox Church, Hebbal delivered a warm welcome address, followed by an inspiring presidential address by His Grace Mar Seraphim.

Fr. Dr. Devasiachen Mukulath, CMI, the Registrar of Dharmaram Vidyakshetrem, Bangalore, and a distinguished professor of Dogmatic Theology, was the keynote speaker. His captivating talk delved into the spiritual world, dispelling myths and addressing various topics such as Satanism, secret Satanic gatherings, and the desecration of holy objects, including the Holy Eucharist. Father also explored the history of occult organizations and the proliferation of black magic through various means. He shared personal experiences with exorcism, highlighting the importance of distinguishing possession from mental illness.

Throughout the sessions, participants gained valuable insight into demonic afflictions and protective measures. However, he cautioned against excessive internet research on this subject for safety reasons.

The conference’s record-breaking attendance was a testament to its significance, with over 280 participants, the highest in the history of Bangalore Diocese. Attendees were treated to exceptional food and snacks, and the music sessions by the Bangalore Diocese music ministry added to the enriching atmosphere. The MGOCSM and OCYM of the host parish generously gifted sacred prayer beads blessed by our beloved Seraphim Thirumeni to all participants.

Towards the conclusion of the sessions, H.G. Abraham Mar Seraphim reiterated the significance of prayer and fasting in daily lives, emphasizing their role as shields against negative forces. Thirumeni also cautioned against delving too deeply into such bold topics due to their potential dangers.

The event concluded with a lively question and answer session, allowing participants to have their doubts and queries addressed by the knowledgeable speaker, Fr. Dr. Devasiachen Mukulath.

A heartfelt vote of thanks was delivered by Rev. Fr. Varghese P. Idichandy, acknowledging the outstanding efforts of the MGOCSM and OCYM of Mar Gregorios Orthodox Church, Hebbal, in hosting this incredibly successful one-day conference. The event left participants with an enlightening and spiritually enriching experience.
